IN MEMORY
WILLIAM “BILL” WESLEY TAYLOR
1945 - 2026

The Columbus Chapter ASIS International was deeply saddened to learn of the death of long-time member Bill Taylor on June 14, 2026. Bill spent his career working in law enforcement and private security. Bill retired from the Columbus Police Department with the rank of Sergeant in 1995. He later worked for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and started the private security consulting group Bill Taylor and Associates. One of his favorite jobs was as the traffic reporter for Sunny 95 radio known as Sunny 95’s Yellow Thunder.
Bill was a founding member of The Ohio Crime Prevention Association. Bill was also very active with Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, where he served several terms as its founding and acting President, as well as on the Board of Directors for many years.
Bill was very active with the Columbus Chapter of ASIS International serving as the Vice Chairman in 1980. From 2006 thru 2014 he along with chapter member Bernie Pack chaired the program committee. For these nine years the two of them solicited and secured the speakers for all our luncheon meetings. Not an easy task but they were very successful in getting the job done. From 2021 thru 2023 Bill was the “MC” for our annual Officer Appreciation Luncheon which he loved to be involved in giving him a chance to network with chapter members and friends from his law enforcement career.
Bill Taylor will surely be missed and remembered by his friends and chapter members.
JUNE 2026 - Chapter Meeting and Luncheon Recap
Bravo hosted ASIS for our June 18, 2026 meeting with another great meal which over 25 members attended. Chapter Chair Chad Parris gave a welcome to all and introductions were made. Before giving the invocation, Tim Beverly, Chapter Chaplain, asked those present to keep the family and friends of long time member Bill Taylor in their thoughts. Bill passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 14th. He had served in a number of chapter leadership positions. Committee Chairs reported on their activities of the past month and upcoming events like the Golf Outing and Officer Appreciation Luncheon.
June meeting sponsor Tim Stegner and Joe Hunter with IPS – Integrated Protection Services, made a short presentation about IPS services and products.

Following lunch, the meeting’s topic was Artificial Intelligence, presented in panel format with Chad as MC and the panel consisting of Brandon Wilson with Hanwha Vision; JJ Mathews with I-PRO Americas; and Ken Minard with AXIS Communications.

The panel discussion revolved around the question, what is A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) and how is it being used in the security industry. Ken Minard commented that today their are 80-100 million surveillance cameras operating the United States and over 500 million in China. A stark contrast to only 5-10 million in the US in the 1990s. AI is playing a significant role in helping security operations manage large volumes of streaming video for forensic analysis, doing in minutes or seconds what takes hours or days for a human. A huge change from using huge computer systems to do simple analytics, today camera systems can perform "analytics on the edge" (at the camera level). This can save time, human resources and money. Some discussion was had over advantages and disadvantages of hosting security systems in the cloud. The general consensus was that his is a user preference.
While the regulation of AI and its use is a huge topic of discussion, the United States has the lowest level of Artificial Intelligence regulation in the world.
SPECIAL NOTICE: The ASIS chapter will not meet in July and August.
