BIO for Michael Harey – Retired FBI Agent: Speaker for Women in Security meeting September 10, 2025.
Michael Harey, a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent, currently holds the position of Chief Security Officer at Scotts Miracle-Gro. Possessing over twenty years of experience in high-threat environments and law enforcement operations, he is an accomplished tactical expert. His prior service includes the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Reconnaissance Marine, along with roles as a U.S. Embassy Marine and the Lead Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) for tactical response teams at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, the U.S. Interest Section in Havana, Cuba, and the U.S. Embassy in Vienna, Austria.
Subsequent to these assignments, he served as a Border Patrol Agent and a member of the Special Operations Group (SOG)-Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue Team (BORSTAR). His federal tenure also includes service as a Federal Air Marshal, where he functioned as the Principal Aircraft Tactics Instructor, and subsequently as an FBI Special Agent. Within the FBI, he occupied numerous leadership roles, such as FBI SWAT Senior Team Leader, Principal Tactical Instructor, Vehicle Tactics Instructor, and Principal Firearms Instructor. As a certified Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) instructor, he provides extensive knowledge in active shooter response and tactical training. His varied and distinguished operational history grants him a distinctive understanding of practical threat mitigation and expedited response strategies.
